Fallout 4 free mod that adds NPC poses and behaviors

Advanced Animation Framework (AAF) is a free Fallout 4 utility mod that allows you to play with animations and poses in the world of Fallout. For example, through the user interface, you can change the way a merchant guard stands while he or she is waiting for you to complete a purchase.

This expansion mod is less like the Fallout 4 HD Overhaul mod that adds graphical changes and more like the Fallout Script Extender mod that adds more game functions. The Pose Pack is another mod that also adds new behaviors.

What is the Advanced Animation Framework?

It is a custom UI and XML configuration tool. It allows users to play scalable animations and poses from premade animation packs. There are other GUI and various animation tools available, too.

Why aren't my planned animations working?

Saving and restarting is often the best solution to troubleshoot this problem. Also, the animation trigger that you set might not be activating as expected. However, the problem in most cases is that you didn't save your changes.

Does this mod affect gameplay?

It can dramatically affect moment-to-moment gameplay. Though in most cases, the only problems that occur are when NPCs walk off and go missing. The mod often affects how the game looks but rarely impacts how it plays.

Add animated scenes

If you want to add more than poses with this Fallout 4 animation mod, you'll be pleased to know that you can add scenes of characters conducting predetermined actions. Using the interface, you can put several scenes into action, which is a nice way to make the NPCs look busy.

A deceptively complex mod

When you dig into the many layers upon layers of menus buried within this Fallout 4 animation mod, you'll fully understand the complexity of its framework. The GUI operates as a broad tool for programming the animation arrangement.

PROS

  • Offers a wide range of poses for NPCs
  • Many animated scene options you can select

CONS

  • Pose descriptions lack clear details
  • Complex scenes may cause unsightly visual glitches
